The BlockBox Lab XL is Mission Darkness’s primary forensic analysis enclosure – a large durable RF-shielded workspace designed for investigators who need to extract data from seized devices while keeping the device charged. 150% larger than the original BlockBox Lab, specifically designed so that investigators can work with bulkier extraction tools, multiple devices simultaneously, and large Faraday bags without constraint.
The BlockBox Lab XL has been widely used in the digital forensics market for over a decade, trusted by government agencies, law enforcement, military, and forensic professionals worldwide. Preferred over competitor equivalents for its comprehensive features, spacious interior, and included accessories, it serves as a one-stop solution for forensic investigations – allowing seamless device operation, multiple device connections, and ample tool storage inside a secure RF-shielded environment. Mission Darkness™ continuously enhance their products to stay ahead of evolving threats and reduce operational pain points, ensuring forensic professionals have the most effective tools to secure, analyze, and extract critical data with confidence.
Connectivity and power: A dual-sided shielded filter passes data and power through the enclosure wall without introducing signal leakage. The external filter face includes one RJ45 ethernet port, two USB ports, and one AC power outlet. Internally, a shielded power strip with four universal power outlets and four USB ports keeps connected devices charged indefinitely – eliminating the battery lockout problem that can end investigations prematurely. The RJ45 port allows investigators to connect a device inside the chamber to an external extraction tool (such as Cellebrite, GrayKey, XRY, Oxygen Forensics, BlackBag) without the device ever leaving the shielded environment.
Transfer chamber use: The BlockBox Lab XL also functions as a shielded transfer chamber. Devices arriving in NeoLok Faraday bags can be transferred to different bags, such as the Charge & Shield, entirely within the shielded environment.
Construction:
- The frame is made of aircraft-grade aluminium lined internally with RF-absorbent foam
- The viewing window uses Mission Darkness’s patented Gen 2 RF-FilterVu transparent material (25% clearer than the original design) and illuminated by dual internal LED arrays
- All seams and penetrations are RF-sealed
Shielding Certification:
- Independently certified by Keystone Laboratories to IEEE 299-2006 shielding effectiveness standards – the same benchmark used for SCIF construction evaluation
- Click here for the Blockbox Lab testing report
- Blocks all RF signals including WiFi (2.4 to 5GHz), Bluetooth, Cellular (including 5G), GPS, RFID, NFC, and radio signals from low MHz to 40GHz
- Blocks carrier, hardware, and OS agnostics
- Blocks device hacking, tracking, remote wiping and remote detonation

Tips when using the Faraday gloves:
- The Faraday gloves will become defective with extended water contact – do not expose to wet devices
- Items or devices with sharp edges will puncture the gloves and void the shielding capacity of the gloves
- It is not recommended to use the gloves with Faraday bags that use the Velcro closure system, as the Velcro will damage the gloves and compromise their shielding capacity – please use Faraday bags that use the Neolok™ magnetic closure system
- All Faraday fabrics wear out over time and the gloves should be regularly checked to ensure they continue to adequately shield
